Life & Health Sciences

Derry is at the cutting edge of stratified precision medicine, home to both the NI Centre for Stratified Medicine and the Clinical Translational Research & Innovation Centre (C-TRIC). C-TRIC is unique within NI, promoting and facilitating translational and clinical research, the primary objective of which is to reduce both the time to market and the costs associated with research and development of innovative health technologies, medical devices and therapeutics.

The Northern Ireland Centre for Stratified Medicine represents the largest single critical mass of researchers solely focused on stratified medicine across the Island of Ireland.  Located at the centre is the newly established €8.6M Centre for Personalised Medicine Clinical Decision Making & Patient Safety partnership with Heath Trusts in Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and Scotland and companies including Randox Laboratories, Optum and Clinishare. Health and social care is integrated in Northern Ireland providing unique opportunities to improve patient outcomes, test new integrated delivery models, and adopt new systems and technologies.

All of this is strengthened by an enhanced digital-health infrastructure and the Cognitive Analytics Research Lab (CARL) that enables world-leading informatics research and clinical trial opportunities.  A location for top global pharmaceutical, MedTech and healthcare companies, Derry Region has a proven track record in establishing partnerships between industry, academia and the National Health Service (NHS).

Why here

“We have successfully operated a manufacturing facility in Northern Ireland since 1996, and know it to be a great location to do business. The availability of skilled graduates in the area, engagement of local council representatives, and the support offered from Invest NI were all critical factors in our decision to locate this centre in Northern Ireland”

– Marty Scaminaci, VP, BEMIS
